A forehead lift or "browlift" is used to correct a drooping browline (eyebrow area) reducing the horizontal lines and furrows (worry lines) that often make a person appear angry, sad or tired. The procedure creates a refreshed, youthful appearance to the forehead area above the eyes.
When performing a forehead lift procedure, muscles and tissue areas that droop or cause creases are removed or corrected to smooth the skin on the forehead to reduce frown lines and raise the eyebrows. There are two surgical methods, and during your initial consultation the procedure that works best for you will be recommended. The first is an older method where a surgical incision is hidden just above the hairline.
With increasing frequency browlifts are also performed using an endoscope which enables the procedure to be performed with a minimal length and number of incisions. The endoscopic browlift represents a growing trend toward aesthetic procedures performed through smaller incisions and with less recovery time.
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid tucks, are very common in patients over 40. This is a procedure to remove or rearrange eyelid fat, and tighten excess skin in the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and the puffy bags under the eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel. The effect is to give the eyes a more rested, youthful look with a brighter appearance.
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both and can also be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures. One of the procedures which is somewhat unique to our practice is the "fat redistribution technique." This involves the repositioning of the patient's own fat from the lower eyelids to correct depressions between the lower eyelid and upper cheek, revitalizing that entire area.
As people grow older, the skin of the face begins to wrinkle and sag, and can lead to heaviness along the jawline and laxity of the neck. Exposure to the sun, genetic influences and other factors can contribute to the effects of aging. A facelift can correct these conditions and give people a more youthful appearance. This procedure involves the tightening of facial and neck skin and muscles, as well as the removal of excess skin. We most often utilize techniques which involve the suspension of lining tissues of the skin rather than the skin itself to prevent a "stretched" appearance ("extended SMAS lift"). Facelift incisions are placed in areas where they are minimally visible. A more recent advance is a "short-scar" facelift in which excellent results can be obtained with fewer scars. The objective is to elevate the underlying structures and redrape the skin on the face in order to give a more youthful, healthy and rested appearance. We have a great deal of experience with this procedure and can assure that the results will appear natural.
The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, although some of our patients prefer to take advantage of the extended stay unit. The discomfort associated with a facelift is usually minimal to moderate. Bruising and swelling are expected, but this will resolve in ten days to two weeks following the surgery. As with any plastic surgery procedure, the healing process with a facelift is gradual and final results may not be apparent for several weeks, but the benefits from the surgery will last for years.
Rhinoplasty is performed to change the appearance of the nose to be more aesthetic and pleasing. The nose is composed of three zones. One, two, or all three may need to be addressed at the time of surgery. For instance, some patients are concerned about their "bump" whereas others by their "tip." Methods to address the particular features of each patient's nose will be discussed. Of course it is imperative that facial harmony be achieved. A splint is removed by the 5th day and most people are fully recovered in approximately a week to 10 days.
